Energy Auditing for Industrial Spaces
Your industrial space requires a massive amount of energy, both for the important work you do and just because you have a lot of space that needs to be heated, cooled, and lit up. Finding ways to cut your energy usage is key to bringing costs down and minimizing your business’s impact on the environment.
To help you and your team identify areas for improvement, you need to conduct an energy audit. There are three levels of energy audit recognized by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE):
ASHRAE Level 1 Energy Audits for Industrial Buildings
A Level 1 energy audit is the most basic, least expensive, and least intensive type of audit. This audit includes:
- Interviews of key operations personnel
- Reviews of the facility’s utility bills
- A walk-through of the site
This level of audit is meant to uncover any glaring areas of energy inefficiency. You’ll be able to identify free or low-cost improvements that you can make quickly.
ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audits for Industrial Buildings
Next, a Level 2 energy audit includes:
- A breakdown of your energy consumption to identify the areas that present the greatest opportunities for improving efficiency
- An analysis of your utility rates to find opportunities to secure lower rates
- Interviews with important building personnel to understand building operations and any potential problem areas
- Defining your financial and non-financial goals
This level of audit represents more intense data collection and reporting which will allow you to move forward with larger, more expensive energy-saving projects.
ASHRAE Level 3 Energy Audits for Industrial Buildings
If you need more data or want to analyze specific areas, an ASHRAE Level 3 audit may be right for you.
This level of audit provides an advanced field of data gathering. The data is analyzed more intensely to find all possible areas for improvement. Additionally, you’ll be able to better identify any potential costs and payoffs that will result from energy efficiency efforts.
Completing each of the three ASHRAE energy audits will help you get the full picture of your industrial building’s opportunities and liabilities so you can take action.
